Karting Test Day at Talladega Gran Prix Feb 17th

Drive Your Line to Sponsor test at Talladega Gran Prix in Munford, Alabama.

As road racers and sprint racers, the managing staff at Drive Your Line and Karting the Coast have a decades-long history in both disciplines. Thus, they are offering a test session at Talladega Gran Prix. The facility used to host road racing events roughly 20 years ago. TGP is eager to see karting return to their track, and Drive Your Line President Christy Kendall says she's happy to help make that a reality.

"We have finished out 2023 and are finishing up plans for our 2023 awards banquet when we were considering how to make our series more diverse. Thus, Road Racing was a great idea. Road Racing was the pinnacle of karting in the United States. The Best of the Best, so to speak. It still is, to an extent. We felt the Road Racing segment really wasn't seeing a conversion of sprint racers making their way into Road Racing on the big tracks like it could. As a result, our kart shop, Drive Your Line, is the perfect catalyst to provide a neutral arena to help kart racers, young and old, make their way into the Road Racing dynamic. Allen Cox and I, like many, came from sprint backgrounds and into road racing. Road Racing provides drivers a means of learning many of the famous sports racecourses in the United States without needing a sports car or the expense of one. But for young drivers looking to make a career in motorsports, Road Racing experience would benefit their advancement."

Kendall and Cox also manage Karting the Coast. A regional series that concentrated on Sprint racing. That is until now.

Saturday, February 17th, Drive Your Line will sponsor a test day at Talladega Gran Prix in Munford, Alabama. Kendall hopes to see many of the area's sprint racers and their Road Racing friends support this special test event.

"We have been interested in organizing a race at TGP for some time, but the timing just didn't make sense for one reason or another. With the recent surge in popularity of Road Racing, the timing couldn't be more perfect. Should our test provide the expected results, we will announce a race date at TGP in 2024. Our sport needs to get back to having fun. Our Karting the Coast events are family-friendly for all ages, and we try very hard to make them fun and enjoyable for everyone. Cookouts on practice nights before a race day, Drivers meeting birthdays, and special event celebrations. We want our racers to make great memories and lifelong friendships. We will bring these same fun times to Road Racing as we build our 2024 schedule. All while providing a great race program our racers expect from us. Talladega Gran Prix is the perfect transitional track from Sprint into Road Racing at 1.33 miles."

The Talladega test will be held one day only in hopes there will be enough interest to justify a practice and race date later in 2024.
